More Favorite Shots - these from February/March, 2013.  A trio playing in
our local Morgan Hill Jazz venue, some shots from another outing at
the Morgan Hill Dog Park, and a wood man face and peeking deer from
an outing at Mt. Madonna Redwood Park outside Gilroy, CA.  Spring
has sprung, so some more colorful shots coming for next month.  Bottom
line again, though, is that we get out and shoot whenever and wherever
we can, usually resulting in some fun, good shots that I like, eventually!

Pocket Cameras?

What makes a good Pocket Camera?  They come in simple forms, with few buttons or settings to manage, and they now come with advanced features such as long zoom and manual settings on a dial.  What makes one good means different things to different people.  One thing I can say though, after using and reviewing many of them, is that all but one or two are really THE SAME.  How so?  Well, because they come with a really small image sensor - half the size of your pinky's fingernail - so the quality of the images they can capture is limited.  Nevertheless, they take good snapshots with the flash, up close, and take fairly good outdoor photos in good light. Photos look good on line, and you can make prints up to 11x 14 with the better pocket cameras and your best effort at shooting.  Moreover, they help chronicle your life adventures when being the only camera on hand.  Herewith, a few photos taken with my two pocket cameras. Fun stuff on these cameras often include many special effects options.  Two below include a beagle "painted" on camera, and a one-color effect. As they say, the best camera is the one you have with you, and a capable pocket camera on hand is always a good thing!

What's the Best about the Holidays?

Family first, of course, though many other things.  We love seeing the kids, grandkids, and any and all family that find a way to stop by in the Fall on through Christmas.  We also love making and eating great meals, and Marsha always steps up and makes that happen.  Then there's all the fun, interesting little decorations around the house, along with fun shots of the family dogs and other random shots.  We also like, of course, the local Christmas Parade, all the neighborhood decorations, and of course all the fun music and Christmas Movies playing in the background.  Finally, for this year again, it was about mostly Marsha's efforts to help those less fortunate as she gathered 3 rooms full of donations for us to help local families relocate into new homes.  Most of these things are featured here in my usual small collective of photos.  We thank the Lord for another great year and our prosperity, and hope 2013 is another special one!

For November, 2012 -- just a few random People Shots.  Pumpkin People, Ghostly People, Little People, Statue People, Posing People.  People are always great subjects, and shooting them in special settings or conditions is always a challenge.  People shooting is also often people watching - fun stuff too - and people are otherwise endless subjects in and endless variety of circumstances.  More of these to come...

Once again, no special theme -- just a few of my favorite shots from October, with some fun effects applied in some shots.  A birthday cake, old water tower, a pair of sandals-again, Impatiens bloom, a lotta pumpkins, Spooky stuff, and yellow-dabbing a black and white photo.  Fall photo fun, Happy 60th Autumn to Me, Cheers, and happy shooting to you...

Man's Best Friend

Animals will appear on this site from time to time - especially dogs.  I love dogs more than I can explain, so I certainly love taking photos of them.  For this posting I share a few recent dog photos that I enjoyed painting over with textures from the fun Photo Shop plug-in, Topaz.  Not that a cute or gorgeous dog needs to be embellished in an image, but giving them a painted look seemed to beautify them further, and sort of immortalize them.  While of course not all dogs I photograph are mine, we all want to immortalize the dogs that have been part of our lives, and we never forget them - not a one...

A Beautiful Gray Day by the Ocean

Santa Cruz Harbor, CA  August, 2012

A perfect overcast day for shooting in the harbor.  Not to be deterred by a few raindrops, I enjoyed 4 hours of shooting with several friends.  Another fun outing that reminded me again of the special places in the Bay Area that I need to frequent more.  Better photos can usually be found by just going to special places!  Here are just a few of my favorite shots.
